Ask a question
Type your question into a new chat. For an exact phrase, document number or citation lookup, open Source library. These are examples of research starting points:
- A question in your own wordsWhat is gross income?
- The workspace finds documents that use those terms and quotes their text.
- A Code sectionsection 1362
- Finds the section and documents that cite it.
- An exact phrase"qualified appraisal"
- Matches those words in the document text.
- A document number202631001
- Opens that ruling when it is in the Source library.
Continue with a follow-up in the same conversation. Use Source library when you want to look through documents directly.
Read cited answers
Each supported answer links its statements to retrieved source evidence. Page and section links open the original at that place. When no retrieved text supports an answer, the workspace says so instead of guessing.
Follow-up questions stay in the same conversation. A question about the documents you already have, such as “what page is that on?”, reuses them. A new question searches again and adds another answer.
Open the document inspector and choose Ask to continue the latest question from the conversation. Follow-ups asked there are answered from that document.
Read documents
Documents open to the original PDF when one is available. Move between pages with the page controls, zoom to fit the page or width, and select text to copy it. Switch to readable text or source text at any time.
Pages transcribed from a scan are labeled as transcriptions, not official text. Download the original to keep the published document.
Projects and updates
Projects keep related chats, sources and memos together, and they are private to you. Create a project in the sidebar, then use a chat’s menu to move it into that project, or ask a new question from the project’s page. Archiving a project keeps its chats; restore the project when you need it again.
A project’s sources list what its answers cite, and you can keep other sources there for a client or issue. Matters groups firm memos.
Updates shows saved research activity and notices about documents added to the source library.
Authority and status
Check the authority type and status in the source details before relying on a document. A search match does not establish legal authority.
AI summaries and answers are generated text that cite the pages they come from.
More on coverage is on the Sources page. See the research terms for source and reliance guidance.
